The Ground Floor shopfronts are an important part of the scheme as they provide attractive active frontage to the Public Realm.

We have deliberately kept the material palette simple, using local material precedents as inspiration.

The arched Ground Floor shopfronts will be clad in green tiles which reference the Victorian glazed tile treatments across the ground floor elevations of nearby pubs and public buildings.

The shopfronts will be bronze coloured metal and glass with dedicated signage and laser cut ventilation grilles above the glazing.

We would like to further develop the patterning and materiality of the tiles with the input of an artist to add another level of richness and interest to the Ground
Floor.

We are showing the tiled surfaces as green in these images though an alternative colour could be agreed by planning condition.

Materials – Palette

The material palette we are proposing consists of three main elements. We have deliberately kept the palette simple, using local material precedents as inspiration.

The Ground Floor shopfronts will be clad in green glazed tiles, (or an alternative colour to be agreed by planning condition) with the possible involvement of an artist to bring detail and interest to the streetscape and public realm.

We are proposing to use bronze coloured, decorative metalwork to the doors, window frames and above the retail unit windows.

The main material above Ground will be a buff London stock brick with white mortar. These bricks will echo the brick buildings adjacent to the site along Gillingham Street and to the South.
